Android has worked on and finally released new update with quite delicious title – Android Oreo. This updates moto is: “Smarter, faster, and more powerful than ever”. Android in their official page advertise Android Oreo by saying: “Smarter, faster, more powerful and sweeter than ever. The world’s favorite cookie is your new favorite Android release.” And have made an interactive description on the new update.
In their introduction to Android Oreo for their visual material they use Google Pixel smartphone. And that is for a reason. Lets put aside Google Pixel 2 rumors. This update is already available for Google Pixel owners since August 21th. But what about other Android users like Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and Motorola? Well others will just have to wait. The official date when this delicious update will be available for other phone users has not been set jet. All we know is that it should become available for other smartphone users in next couple of moths up to even a year depending on your smartphone manufacturer and carrier. The new Google Pixel 2 will already come with this update Android Oreo.
Here’s what’s the most useful and exciting in Android Oreo
Picture-in-picture or as Android says: “Do two things at once, at once”. People who love multitasking will be excited about this new feature. This feature allows you to see and do things on two apps at once.
In total control of your Notifications
Don’t you sometimes get annoyed by notifications from different apps that are not important to you? If that’s the case then you will love this. Go to Settings —> Notifications —> Notifications and find those apps that keep annoying you with not important notifications and select that app to view its channels and customize manually what and how it will alert you from now on.
Phone knows his home Wi-fi
Wi-fi is a great thing but it eats up your smartphones energy quite fast. So, we usually tend to switch on Wi-Fi when we are home and then strive to remember to turn it off when we are leaving. With Android Oreo your smartphone will remember your home Wi-Fi and when you return home it will automatically turn on the Wi-Fi. And when you leave your smartphone will automatically turn the Wi-Fi off, to save your phones energy. And you have one less thing to worry about.
Using Notification channels, you can turn on notification dots for any app you’d like. Whenever there is a notification from this app, a dot will appear on app icons right high corner. And if you wish to see it – tap on it to see the short version of notification without opening the app itself. If not – just swipe away.
No storage for updates? No worries, Oreo got ya!
Android Oreo is planning on new even more amazing updates and updates can take up quite a space in your phone. So, that’s why from now on updates to Android Oreo will continue to install even if there is no storage for it. How it works is that the update will stream from Google servers to your phone and install that update. Well ok, you will need some storage to install new updates… 100kb. If you ask me that’s really not a lot storage.
What’s fun is that new Android Oreo gives us new emojis. Android says: “Share the feels with a fully redesigned emoji set, including over 60 new emoji.”
For those who gave Google devices – enjoy your new update. If you have not installed it jet. Go to Settings –> About phone –> System updates –> Check for updates. As you can see in the picture above Android Oreo asks a lot of storage, almost a 1GB. Once you have downloaded the installation will take about half an hour. If you can’t live without your phone for that long during the day, you can schedule it to install overnight.
And for those who don’t have Google phones, let’s wait for it to become available to us.
