Synaptics Incorporated are a company who are the number one developers of human interface solutions. And yesterday Synaptics announced the mass production with top 5 OEM of its optical in-display fingerprint sensor (either Samsung, Apple, vivo, Xiaomi or Huawei). Synaptics’ Clear ID in-display fingerprint sensors will activate in the display only when it is needed. We can’t deny that we are excited about this, because Clear ID is so much faster and easier than 3D facial recognition. Clear ID will be very secure with SentryPoint technology and also very fast with one-touch biometric authentication directly in the touchscreen display area.
The new Synaptics technology in-display fingerprint sensor Clear ID is expected to be located on home buttons place at the bottom of the display, that we have seen on Samsung Galaxy S and iPhone before these years Samsung Galaxy Note 8, iPhone X and other new models.
The security of your phone is becoming one of the most important features in your smartphone, not just because of your privacy, because basically all our life and secrets can be found on our phones now a day. But also, because money transactions using your phone have become everyday activity. And technologies are developing and in the future, no one will be using and actual credit card, you will buy everything using your smartphone.
So, when it comes to guessing which will be the OEM partner we can’t know for sure. Synaptics has a history of working with Samsung on OLED infinity displays and maybe it’s time to work together. But then again report released this summer suggests that Samsung will no longer be working with Synaptics. Xiaomi is known for embracing the new technologies early and has a history of bezel-free flagships with Mi Mix line, so maybe they are the mysterious OEM partner? We’ll keep guessing.
Senior vice president and general manager, Mobile division, Synaptics, Kevin Barber said that “Consumers prefer fingerprint authentication on the front of the phone, and with the industry quickly shifting to bezel-free OLED infinity displays, the natural placement of the fingerprint sensor is in the display itself.” And he stresses the importance of this innovation “Synaptics’ Clear ID fingerprint sensors are faster, more convenient, and more secure than alternative biometrics, and this optical technology represents a major innovation shift and opportunity for the smartphone market.”
But while we keep guessing one thing is for sure, as the 2018 goes along we will know more and more information about this new Synaptics Clear ID. Synaptics will do a live demonstration of in-display fingerprint an a full-production in the global stage for innovation CES 2018 conference held in Las Vegas, January 9-12. So, more information about this will come soon.
