Well the truth about Google Pixel 2 and Snapdragon 836 has been revealed. With every new device, we are always expecting something better and faster. And Google Pixel 2, that is expected to arrive early October, is no exception. There have been many Google Pixel 2 rumors that Qualcomm is working on new Snapdragon model – Snapdragon 836. And that the first phone to launch it will be Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2. Nearly every tech news site out there has reported it. Numerous quite reliable information leaksters have reported it. But…
Well I guess it really was too good to be true. Despite the rumors and information leaks from quite reliable sources… The truth is that the Snapdragon 836 and Google Pixel 2 will not be an item this year. Instead of Snapdragon 836 the new Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 will be powered by Snapdragon 835 the same as every other new smartphone that’s released this year.
Snapdragon 836 and Pixel 2 release date
A couple of weeks ago famous smartphone leakster Evan Blass tweeted: “Google’s second-generation Pixel handsets, powered by Snapdragon 836 SoC’s, will be unveiled on October 5th.” Now we are sure that this tweet is not accurate and Pixel 2 will not launch Snapdragon 836. As for the release date… well there has not been any other information leaks that would confirm that the date really will be October 5. And since the first part of the tweet was false I would not trust the last part either.
But just a few days ago XDA developers reported that they have information from extremely reliable source that there is no Snapdragon 836. Later, Androidpolice also confirmed this information telling that the main source has confirmed that indeed there is no Snapdragon 836.
There will be no Snapdragon 836
And in fact, reliable sources also report that the next Qualcomm SoC masterpiece will not be Snapdragon 836. So, despite the rumors the new Google Pixel will probably launch with the newest Qualcomm SoC creation Snapdragon 835. This off course may not be the case, but one thing is for sure it will not be Snapdragon 836, well because it doesn’t exist and is simply a fruit of imagination.
Please don’t be mistaken this does not mean that Qualcomm is not planning on new Snapdragon chipset, updated SoC for Q4 this year or in 2018. There already are rumors about new SoC Snapdragon 845 and that it will be launched in Samsung Galaxy S9. Though we recommend not to look at this as a quite real possibility.
Should we be disappointed in Google Pixel 2 processor?
Should we be disappointed in Google Pixel 2 now that we know that there will not launch Snapdragon 836? No, you should not. As said before most likely Google Pixel 2 will launch Snapdragon 835. And Snapdragon 835 is actually really solid processor with no errors known so far. Snapdragon 835 is the successor to the Snapdragon 821, as you know Google Pixel first generation phones were launched with this processor. And we have to say that Snapdragon 835 is now significantly better than Snapdragon 821. So, comparing first generation Pixel smartphone processor to the new Pixel 2 we still will see magnificent change and upgrade.
