So, it is finally happened, yesterday October 4th in San Francisco Google launched two new second-generation smartphones Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL, a hybrid laptop, wireless headphones, and two smart speakers. This time we will talk about the Google Pixel 2 why choose Google Pixel 2?
Google Pixel 2 price
The new Google Pixel 2 price will start at $649 for the 64 GB model and $749 for the bigger storage 128GB model. As you can see it’s expensive but it’s quite cheaper than iPhone 8 price ($699), iPhone 8 Plus ($799) and Samsung Galaxy S8 ($724.99). That could be one of the reasons why choose Google Gixel 2.
When can I get Google Pixel 2?
The pre-order of Google Pixel 2 has already started yesterday, October 4th. But the release date of Google Pixel 2 is set for October 19th in the United States, Canada, Australia, India and Germany.
Google Pixel 2 Design
As you can see Google is continuing its pattern of glass/metal combination that we can also see in the first-generation smartphones. Yes, maybe it does not look as flashy as the new Apple or Samsung smartphones released this year, but it is still quite good looking. The glass metal combination really makes it look attractive and it feels very comfortable when holding in hand. Also, as you can notice the fingerprint scanner is no longer in the glass part of the phones back. The fingerprint scanner now is on the metal body, which is quite smart move for avoiding those finger smudges on the glass part.
One other thing that has changed is the headphone jack, yes, there is none. That means that if you want to use your own headphones you will need to use adapter to go through the USB-C port.
Pixel 2 comes in three colors – kinda blue, clearly white and just black.
Pixel 2 has those big bezels at the top and the bottom and it stands out, because it doesn’t give us that futuristic look that Apple and Samsung gave us this year with iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8
But it’s not all bad because in those bezels Google has put dual front-facing speakers. These speakers should improve the audio playback. A great feature the could be a reason why choose Google Pixel 2 for those who like to play video games on their phone and the ones who like watching videos on their phone.
Pixel 2 new features
Now whenever you need Google Assistant you can just quickly squeeze the sides of the phone and Google Assistant will be at your service. The same feature as on the HTC U11. Also, you have an option to adjust the pressure required to trigger the Google Assistant which is totally understandable.
Search what you see
You can take photo of something with your Pixel 2 and it will try to recognize it and tell you the information on what it is, where to find it etc. Cool, right? This is a work in progress, though, so don’t expect it to react to every item in the world there is.
Pixel 2 automatically detects and displays the information about the song that is playing right now on the always-on display.
Well, don’t jump in the pool with it jet. You can expect it to handle some water, but it’s not built for snorkeling experience filming just jet.
Pixel 2 Display
Google Pixel 2 screen is 5.0’’ with AMOLED screen 16:9 aspect ratio, FHD 1920 x 1080 and in total its 5.7 inches tall, 2.7 inches wide and 0.3 in depth. Comparing the sizes to the first-generation Pixel the differences can be measured in millimeters, so it’s about the same size. And it is easy to use with one hand.
The colors look vibrant and the text and images are crisp and clear. One of the new features in this Pixel 2 is the ability to see the time, date and notification items and reminders when the phone’s screen is locked. Of course, those who have first generation Pixels and have installed Android Oreo also have similar always-on display.
Pixel 2 Camera
Last year’s Pixel had the title of the best camera in a smartphone and this year’s camera also is quite impressive with a lot of new cool and handy features. Pixel 2 has 12MP rear facing camera similar as in iPhone 8 Plus it boasts a portrait mode. And as for having two cameras, Pixel 2 doesn’t need theme, it manages to get the blurred background effect with just the single sensor. Front facing camera has 8MP camera and it also has the portrait mode. Also, the cameras perform very well when using theme in a low light.
Overall the new second-generation Google Pixel 2 seams to look quite modest but actually is very impressive. We can’t wait to get our hands on it, October 19th can’t come any sooner.
